The labor x-ray of the province of Alicante is a mirror of the service sector. The end of summer has revealed several significant realities such as the type of hiring in the last year. According to data from the Institute of Economic Studies of the Province of Alicante, until the month of August, 435,970 employment contracts were registered, 9.2% more than in the same period of 2016.
The permanent contracts accumulated until last month represent 9.50% of the provincial total and amount to 41,406. Last year this percentage
Email Data was slightly higher – 9.64%. The transfer in favor of temporary ones means, once again, that the province is going against the national trend.
Ineca makes a comparison with respect to the annual variation in the number of contracts accumulated until August and from the same, it is clear that while in Alicante permanent contracts grow by 7.57%, in Spain it is 12.20%. In this temporal framework, temporary contracts present similar percentages. The province obtains 9.36% and nationally 9.51%.
The director of the Analysis department Francisco Llopis has pointed out that “the economic improvement of the province of Alicante is relying on small productive activities with a clear seasonal nuance that make greater use of temporary employment contracts and the figure of the self-employed”. The uniqueness of the Alicante labor market is not new, but it reflects a characteristic that experts consider a weakness. First, because we are going against it and second, and more importantly, because it is “to the detriment of others that support industrial activities with jobs with greater stability”, as the economist explains. This fact has an impact on the generation of a situation of less seasonality and in a framework of larger companies.
This unequal variation means that the province loses relative weight in permanent contracts in favor of temporary ones, the opposite of what happens in Spain as a whole. According to data provided by Ineca, indefinite contracts signed until the end of the vacation period represented 3.36% of the national total, above contracts temporary ones that are 3.09% of the total.
cold data
The number of contracts accumulated until last month in Spain is close to 14 million, of which 1,232,219 correspond to permanent contracts and 12,773,278 to temporary contracts. To date, the province has accumulated more than 400,000, divided between 41,406 permanent and 394,564 temporary. In this way, Alicante loses four points in the pie of representation of the national market in permanent terms and practically remains the same in temporary ones.
